All You Need To Know About “ZILHAJ” The Holy Months For Muslims

ZILHAJ

Zilhaj is one of the holy months for Muslims. It is the final 12th month in the Islamic calendar.  Zilhaj is a very sacred month in which Muslims from all over the world perform Hajj. Dhu. Al-Hijjah means “Possessor of the Pilgrimage”. In this ceremony Muslims comes to Mecca city in Saudia Arabia and perform rituals in Khanna Kaba. The first ten days of this month have a superior status as Allah blessed this month with many rewards. Aba Abdillah [Imam Ja’far Ibn Muhammad as-Sadiq] (peace be upon him) narrated that “Surely Allah, the Noble, and Grand, has made three things sacred and there is nothing else equivalent to them: His Book (Holy Quran) which is His Command and Divine Light; His House (The Kaaba) which He has made as the focal point (Qiblah) and He will not accept from anyone facing any other direction; and the family of your Prophet.”

After the rituals performed in Mecca, the tenth day is rewarded as Eid ul Adha. Prophet PBUH said No act is more beatitude as those done in the ten days. In Zilhajj a pilgrimage first perform Hajj. Then he or she fast in the first nine days of Zilhajj. As PBUH said that “Fasting the Day of ‘Arafah (9th Zilhajj) is an expiation for (all the sins of) the previous year and expiation for (all the sins of) the coming year.” [Sahih Muslim]

In these days a Muslim does Dhikar and Takbeer as much as he can and prays in the last part of the night. After nine days, Eid ul Adha occurs, where sacrifice of an animal is done and Eid prayer is recited. On the day of Eid a Muslim thanks Allah for all the blessing that had been bestowed upon us and asks for Allah’s mercy and forgiveness.

“And worship your Lord until there comes unto you the certainty (death).” [Al-Hijr 15:99]
